Gotcha!?

girls and boys ad

boys ad

girl's ad

Above are the three ads that were used for our cellphone Gotcha campaign! While all three ads are nice individually the first ad needs some work as for as its cohesiveness with the others. While the boys and girls ad both have the cloud background, the ad for both both boy and girl lack that feature and consequently make it stand out for the wrong reasons. It also causes the wording to be hard to see with the forest background. in addition, overall, the ad could have been better worked with less wording. All of the words in the ads make them seem more complex and less appealing to a child between the ages of 9-12. While these ads were geared towards the parents of these children, most people like to look at what it visually appealing then reading a novel about it. In addition, the word "kid" in the boys ad makes it appear to be too youthful and less appealing to what someone of that age would want who may want to be referred to someone who is more grown up.

What Makes "The Best?"

"The Best-Ever Social Media Campaigns"

Just about anybody can make some type of ad, but what truly sets apart the best from the rest? And how do they keep the consumer interested?

I'm sure that everyone has signed up for their favorite brands "email list" for "great deals" (or so they say) at one time or another, but how many have turned that email that was once just a fun way to get quick deals, into an overload of junk mail? And how many get tired of them asking for your information and give away that ex-boyfriends number instead? Every day, advertisers are finding new and fun ways to get the word out to the people about their product including: Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube. By using websites that people are more likely to be on most of the day, such as were listed, advertisers are becoming smarter and more realistic about how people receive their information. For example, rather than signing up for yet another email account with your favorite store, certain places such as American Eagle have pushed for their fans to "like" their page on Facebook to find out about upcoming promotions and events.

Social media campaigns such as these have shown to be more highly effective opposed to being instantly deleted or thrown away from mailboxes at home. I can even admit to posting a link, or re-tweeting about an ad or two from American Eagle that I found to be interesting or saved me a lot of money! The truth is, seeing a small promo on your newsfeed is a lot more interesting than that letter in the mailbox addressed to "Our Favorite (and may I also add, unnamed) Customer." Plus, what are the odds of someone checking every single company that they love for great deals *every day*-- (no one, hopefully). In addition, with a generation whose attention span doesn't last more than .2 seconds if it doesn't immediately interest us, ads like these are vital!

Here's an example of a church reaching out globally (can be seen at the bottom of their page)-- even they're switching up to more modern approaches to reach out on twitter!

My Favorite Commercial

One does not know how to be both sexy and classy flawlessly without first seeing a *Victoria's Secret Angel*. These classy ladies really know how to strut their stuff and not be trashy about it-- I mean, com'on! Who doesn't love a classy gal, right? Anyhow, apart from all of this each year, they amp up for their Christmas selection which is usually introduced to the public without a glitch each time. Last year, however, 2010 showed one of my favorite by them yet! From the intro of the wings, to the blowing of the hair, to the cat walk towards the end... it truly shows that these women know their stuff! I believe that the choice of music and how the clip is shown (mainly it flashes and appears to be racing, like the music) plays a lot into how the ad is taken as the viewer. Just like the music, first the commercial goes through a cycle as well-- First calm, then excitement, then silence in awe. This commercial was so fabulous, that I assure you I was not the only one left with their heart rate a little bit faster from the thrill and experience of the commercial.

The best part about Victoria's Secret products and this commercial is that it not only let's you see the beauty of their products, but it allows you to experience how to feel sexy just like the Angels.

Be adventurous, be curious, go for a ride, and click that clip below for a true experience...! :)

The Future Ms. Story

I'm super excited for this new introduction into the Comm department! I am a recent transfer from the English department, and it has been the best transfer decision so far! I know that it is early in my "comm career," but something about it just seems right. In addition, my background in english already makes me feel a little bit better about my writing skills with coming into this new program. I'm hoping that this class will fulfill e v e r y t h i n g that my mind *thinks* it wants to know and what it doesn't even KNOW that it wants to know yet! I want to learn how to do commercials, sound design, how to please my future clients, and become the best advertiser that I possibly can be. Right now I am really passionate about advertising for *them*... O_O
