The first thing that I noticed after reading the Advertisement chapter in the text was the very *wide* range that advertisers really have to work with as a career! As much as this job is not just about making money, it is also for me to find out if I'm going to be the future "struggling artist" worried of how to feed her children and herself or where I'll be treating the entire family to Ruth's Chris Steakhouse for the rest of my life. However, after a little bit of research, unfortunately, I crossed upon the fact that it will be left up to the future. The text said that advertisers can be paid anywhere from about $20,000 to $137,000! This is not okay! With a wide range like that, who needs planning?! I have not been one to particularly plan life about step by step, because, granted, life happens, but who knew this salary would be so up in the air?! I think the worst part of it all is that I am almost willing to take that risk! In my opinion, in order to be successful in life you need three things: connections, good timing, and a little bit of luck, but most importantly (above all else)-- BALLS! If you are not willing to take risks in life, then expect to not get much out of your future, but anyway, I digress.
While I have not specifically narrowed down exactly what type of advertising I would like to do (whether it be commercial editing, print ads, etc.) I am trying to keep my options as open as possible so that I can learn a wide variety and as much information as possible. If knowledge is power, then I want to be pretty darn powerful!
Here are two other websites that I found that gave additional information to the advertising career:
